Be not surprised to know that there will be differences between what has been learnt at education institutes and the real expectations on the field. The gap has potentially grown much wider with the revolution in technology .
It is alright to realize that things are difficult to comprehend. It is alright to accept that at times deadlines are missed and instead, get correctional dictation or direction. It is needed to know that there will be pressure to perform. It is going to be juggling of tasks, activities, projects, responsibilities and commitments over a period of time. At times undergo PIP (Performance Improvement Plans). It is alright to be rejected, know it is the work that is rejected and not the person. Remember and realize there is no concept of END and nothing stops, all things will keep being in motion.
Learn to join the dots in the behavior of people in the organization. These dots are different from those of friends or mates at colleges since the relationship differ. Learn that competition is useless in real world, somebody else’s goals cannot be adopted for self. Learn when to join the herd and when to stay away. Learn to work with the team, the results are exponential. Learn to differ and disagree without being offended. Learn to handle rejection, it is inevitable at some point of time and expect repetition. Learn to fail, probability of success after that is higher – assuming lessons are learnt. Learn to STEER and not control
